Every November, world leaders, scientists, and negotiators gather for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, the COP Summit. This year, COP31 lands in Antalya, Türkiye from 9–20 November 2026. You've probably seen the headlines. You might have scrolled past them.

But here's the thing most people don't realise: "what gets decided in those conference halls directly affects what you pay, what you wear, and how you shop."

This isn't abstract climate politics. This is your wardrobe, your delivery charges, and your weekly shop. Let us break it down simply.
1. Your Clothes Could Get More Expensive — Or Fairer

One of the biggest topics on the COP31 agenda is "carbon border adjustment" , essentially, a tax on products imported from countries that don't meet strict emissions standards.

Right now, a huge proportion of fast fashion is manufactured in countries where factories run on cheap, polluting energy. That's part of why a £5 T-shirt is even possible. But as international agreements tighten, brands that rely on dirty manufacturing will face new levies, and those costs get passed on to you at checkout.

The flip side? Genuinely ethical, sustainable brands become more price competitive. The gap between "cheap and dirty" and "sustainable and fairly priced" starts to close.

2. Shipping and Delivery Are Changing

International aviation and shipping are firmly on the COP31 agenda. New carbon taxes on freight could reshape how goods move around the world, which means longer shipping windows, adjusted delivery costs, and more pressure on brands to source locally or regionally.

For shoppers, this might mean:
  • Slightly longer delivery times from overseas suppliers
  • More brands promoting UK-stocked, locally warehoused inventory
  • A shift toward buying less, but better

At BK Clothing Shop, we're already thinking about this. Sourcing decisions we make today are made with tomorrow's supply chain reality in mind.

3. "Sustainable" Labels Will Actually Mean Something

One of the most frustrating things as a conscious shopper is not knowing whether a brand's sustainability claims are genuine or just marketing. Terms like "eco-friendly," "green," and "conscious collection" are currently used with almost no regulation.

COP31 is expected to push forward on global green washing standards,& meaning brands will soon be legally required to back up their environmental claims with verified data.

This is genuinely good news for shoppers. You'll be able to trust what the label says. Brands that have been faking it will face real consequences. And brands that have been doing the work quietly will finally get the recognition they deserve.

4. The "Buy Less, Buy Better" Shift Is Going Mainstream

Perhaps the biggest shift COP31 accelerates isn't a policy or a tax, it's a cultural one. As climate awareness becomes harder to ignore, consumer behaviour is changing. People are buying fewer, higher quality pieces. They're checking where things come from. They're asking how long something will last before they buy it.

This is the direction the whole industry is moving in. And honestly? It's better for everyone, including your bank account. One well-made piece that lasts three years beats five cheap ones that fall apart in a season.

5. Your Choices Matter More Than You Think

Here's something the big corporations don't love to advertise: consumer demand is one of the most powerful levers in the entire system.

International climate agreements take years to implement. But your shopping habits change the market right now. Every time you choose a brand that's transparent about its supply chain, you're sending a signal. Every time you ask "where was this made?" you're part of the accountability conversation that COP31 is trying to formalise on a global scale.
